Idaho · Statewide affected area
Idaho is now recognized statewide under RECA's expanded downwinder provisions. This page explains who may qualify, the testing period, and exactly what records help — in plain English, for both the claimant and the family member helping them.
Coverage
The entire state of Idaho, under RECA's expanded provisions.
Testing period
Generally presence during the atmospheric testing period — a year between Jan. 21, 1951 – Nov. 6, 1962, or all of June 30–July 31, 1962.
Survivors
Spouses, children & eligible heirs may file.
RECA is not a lawsuit — it is a federal compensation program. An Idaho claim generally turns on three things:
You don't need everything at once. Start with what you know — we help reconstruct the rest.
We ask where the exposed person lived, what diagnosis exists, and who would be filing.
We help identify residency proof, medical records, identity documents, and survivor paperwork — organized into one file.
A licensed RECA attorney reviews and files the completed claim with the Department of Justice.
Do not send full medical records through any website form. Intake collects only basic screening details; sensitive documents are handled through a secure document workflow.
Covered Conditions
You do not need to prove fallout caused the cancer. The claim file must document the eligible area, period, and diagnosis. See how a diagnosis fits →
Where we help in Idaho
The Gem State — covered statewide
Because Idaho is now an affected area for the entire state, residency anywhere in Idaho during the testing period may count toward a downwinder claim. Southern and eastern Idaho — the Snake River Plain and the towns east of the Nevada test range — were most directly downwind, but families across all 44 counties may qualify.
If you don't see your town below, it still counts. These are simply the communities we help families with most often.
Statewide coverage reflects RECA's expanded downwinder provisions and U.S. Department of Justice guidance. This list is informational and does not determine final eligibility — dates, diagnosis, and documentation still apply.

From farm towns along the Snake River to old home addresses, an Idaho claim often begins with the places and records a family already has. We help organize them into proof.
